ITTF ruling - May 2007

At a recent meeting in Zagreb, the ITTF decided to cease approval for any glues containing Volatile Compounds (VCs) forthwith.  They have not yet issued definitve rules, but our understanding is -

1. From 1st January 2008 for Juniors and 1st September 2008 for Seniors the use of glues containing VCs will be totally banned and testing will take place.

2.  Use of such glues in the meantime is totally at the players/users own risk.

3.  The ITTF have ceased issuing "approval" for all glues.  They will produce a list of "clean glues" which will be regularly updated on their web site.  This will simply be a list of the clean glues available but there will be no "approval".

The ITTF have acknowledged that correct use of glues containing VCs in a well ventilated area, provides no serious health risks but the effects over the longer term may be negative.  We have therefore decided to continue to supply the glues advertised in our catalogue for as long as stocks are available BUT we must emphasise that their purchase and use is entirely at the customers/players own risk.  Coaches and parents take note!  Glues free of VCs are already available, as are rubbers with an in-built speed glue effect eg Joola Energy Green Power.

We will up-date this information when/if we receive anything further.

HOW TO USE SPEED GLUE

1.   Do not use speed glue on new rubbers without pre-glueing.
Pre glueing - using a normal glue eg. zoom, coat the sponge and allow to dry. Repeat.
(This will act as a barrier and assist in protecting the rubber against bubbling
- speed glue solvents will attack the sponge)
2.   For players who regularly use speed glue, we recommend sealing the blade with JOOLA blade varnish to minimise the risk of the upper veneer of the blade becoming damaged.
3.   Apply speed glue (Rossi or Overdrive) to rubber.
4.   Apply a thin layer of speed glue on the blade.
5.   Apply a second coat of speed glue to the rubber.
6.   Leave the blade and rubber to dry and then stick together.
Take care not to overstretch and always follow the instructions for safe use and only use in a well ventilated area.

HOW TO USE JOOLA BLADE VARNISH

Varnish is particularly suited to players who regularly use speed glue and will assist in preventing damage to the blade surface.
1.   Clean the blade surface, best by using thinners and then wiping the surface clean.
2.   Rub the blade surface with fine sandpaper then carefully remove the dust.
3.   Apply sealing varnish evenly over the blade.
4.   Allow to dry for approximately 4 hours.
5.   For safe adhesion of the rubber slightly sand the edge of the blade.
6.   For safe and long lasting protection the process should be repeated after the surfaces are completely dry.
The varnish is almost free of harmful substances but follow the precautionary measures.
